what is TRE® (Tension & Stress Release Exercises) A unique and effective method created by Dr. David Berceli to release deep chronic tension, trauma and stress held in the body.
A set of seven exercises that will smoothly evoke a self-controlled muscular shaking process in the body called neurogenic muscle tremors. As these gentle tremors reverberate throughout the body and along the spine, we give into the wisdom of this natural mechanism with ease and trusting the neurogenic tremors as they release the accumulated stress patterns and deep tension held in the body.

From every day circumstances of life or difficult situations, to immediate or chronic stressful situations, or even traumatic life experiences (i.e., natural disasters, social or domestic violence) we all suffer stress, tension and grief.
Its important to understand this is not only a mental and emotional experience but at a physical level, our body responds with a fight-flight-freeze response (survival mechanism) after which we should be able to return to calmness and safety, but when the stress is repeated or overwhelming the body can’t release the tension from these repeated stressful or traumatic events, and the resulting muscle tensions from the stress reaction will remain activated and we start to suffer the consequences: tense muscles, irritability, anxiety, exhaustion, agitation, unhealthy breathing patterns, depression, panic, loss of memory, insomnia, and then addiction to substances to temporarily sustain the circumstances that arise…. stress, tension and trauma will “live in the body” and can evolve into other physical issues, even a negative thought patterns will cause physical discomfort.
Likewise when we suffer from physical pain and discomfort, accidents and sports injury, these not only affect us at a physical level but can also mentally and emotionally cripple us.
Through the TRE® process we activate the bodies natural tremoring mechanism that, through a contraction-release dynamic, releases the held and built up tension in the muscles and connective tissues, relieving us physically and also mentally.
It is a quick and effective method for consistent relaxation. Eventually, these tremors will evoke themselves naturally in a rest position to reduce any stress or tension that was accumulated over the course of the day.

‘Many times clients have come to me telling me that many spiritual books, gurus, guides, coaches, etc., give them mental exercises to try to ‘sense’ their bodies, ‘feel’ the tension inside, ‘imagine’ being calm or ‘focus’ on your tension. TRE® is a safe and effective stress release technique for most people. The TRE process should not be used as a substitute for trauma recovery procedures of a medical or psychiatric/psychological nature.
